What is Gua Sha?
The practice of Gua Sha uses a tool (typically a ceramic spoon or a smooth scraper made of stone or horn) to scrape against the skin to release stagnant blood and fluid. It can leave distinct marks (the "sha") that can be very faint or quite dark. It can look like a bruise, but is usually not painful. Many say the marks feel similar to a very mild sunburn for a day or two.
The following video gives a fantastic explanation of what gua sha is, and how it works.
Please note that the patient she is working on gets very intense, dark sha and it may look like the procedure is painful, but most people find gua sha to be enjoyable and very effective for treating pain and other stagnation issues.
